One of my Outspoken Moments......

A 15 year old girl holds her 1 year old son; people call her a slut. But
no one knows she was raped at 13. People call a girl fat; no one knows she has a
serious disease that causes her to be overweight. People call an old man ugly; no one
knows he had a serious injury to his face while serving our country in Vietnam. Re-
post this if your against bullying and stereotyping!!!! I bet none of you will post this........

I spotted this profile status on facebook recently and reposted on my status.  I thought it bared repeating.  So tell me folks, what do you think about it? How many of you out there were victims of bullies when you were growing up?  Racism? Stereotyping? I bet more of you than anyone could ever dream.  I would be willing to bet that each and every one of us at some point in our lives has been a victim.  How do I know all this?  Well it's pretty simple.  Like everything else in history, peoples actions and reactions continue to repeat over and over.  What can stop it you say?  People realizing what is happening when it happens and then choosing to do the right thing.  The right thing being, turn the other cheek, seek out the kind action and love one another as they are.
One of my daughters told me recently, that just when you think you have the most dysfunctional family, you meet someone else whose family tops even yours!  I totally get it!  Kinda like what my mama always told me about men.   That men were like Christmas presents, wrappings all shiny and with a pretty bow but the inside empty or full of crap!  She said not to fall for the pretty package.
She said to look deep inside where it counts.  And to also check out the terrain.  In other words, make sure the future in laws were "livable" if you know what I mean!
You try to teach your children to tolerate all types of people.  We are constantly bombarded with stories of gay bashing all around the country.  As a mother of a gay daughter I can promise you they do not choose to be this way.  All they really want to do is to live just like everyone else.  Simple right?  Good glad we're all on the same page!  Live and let live I say!  And if they are "bothering you" because they are gay and the simple act of being gay bothers you then perhaps you need to get in touch with your inner sexuality.  Because if you are uncomfortable with someone else's sexuality then you really must have questions about your own.  Personally, I really don't care what you do behind closed doors as long as you don't expect me to participate.......and for heaven's sake don't take pictures!  But that's a totally different story...
Whenever I see a young pregnant girl I am forever reminded of another young girl I knew in high school.  She gave her baby up for adoption.   She later married her baby's father and they are together still to this day.  They have two other children and have reunited with the one they gave up.   But it was not an easy road for any of them.
It wasn't that way for my best friend.  She was adopted at birth by a pediatrician and his wife a nurse.  She was adored by her father but never close to her mother.    A few years ago she asked me to help her find her birth parents.  I obliged and went about the business of searching.  I found her birth mother's address and suggested she write her.  She only wanted her biological mother to know that she had had a good life and that all she really wanted was some medical information.  She didn't want to upset her life in any way.   You would think after 50 years there would be a reply.  Nothing.  No reply.  Well it was 1961 and times were different then.  But this is 2011 and times are different now.  Maybe she just needs time.  After all she was only 16.  We don't know what the circumstances were that placed her in that predicament but we do know she came from a good family and no one knew about the baby......after all it was 1961.
We see them all the time at the grocery store, the drug store and sometimes at the park.  Most of the time I see them at the doctor's office.  Obese people.  Let's face if folks.  America is one fat cat and North Carolina is one of the fattest states.  Yep sure is and there's no reason to ask why is there?  We already know.  McDonald's, KFC, Hardees, Burger King, Andy's, Bojangles, Popeye's, and the list just goes on......  Got one or two and sometimes 4 on every corner it seems....  No wonder we lead the world on obese people and obese problems.  No small wonder we have the most doctors in the world with the most doctor toys and potions too.  Hmmm makes you wonder sometimes....
So many of our young are now coming home maimed in some way or another.  Most with TBI's.  That unseen injury.  That is one scary injury.  I have a friend whose son suffers from a TBI and hearing loss.  Took an RPG in the head.  Thanks to the sandbag and a last minute turn of said head he gets to keep his pretty face.  But he is forever changed.  That change is etched upon his face.  The hardness in his eyes.
I have an aunt who no matter how tired or out of sorts she may be feeling she will always find something nice to say to you.  Now I find that so uplifting.  I never noticed it growing up but as my kids got older and I had time to look beyond my nose again, I started noticing things.  Yep and that was one of them.  I remember one time she spotted me with no makeup, feeling like death warmed over and my hair was standing on ends.  Know what she said?  She told me I had beautiful skin.  Well, that just made me beam!  Yep sure did!
Next time you see a fat lady hanging out at the Harris Teeters, tell her she looks fantastic!  You would be surprised how much taller she will stand and how pretty she will look when she smiles.  And that guy you passed maimed and disfigured.......tell him to have a nice day sir and when you do.....look him straight in the eye......Respect......goes a long way folks!

Well folks I guess I've done about enough damage for one night.  I fully expect a box full of mail on this one but hey that's the way I see it folks!

Good night Betty!

Twisters, Twisted Sisters and Mater Cars!

Wow what a weekend!  Started out with a bang and ended up beautiful didn't it? My beautiful daughter, the Angel Child turned 27 on Sunday so the Hubs and I took her and her hubs to the Air Show here in Wilmington.  Had a wonderful time with them and would have had a much better time had the show gone on however, due to the wicked weather pilots were refusing to fly!  And I for one did not blame them!  After all we had 41mph winds!  So we stuck it out for a few hours, walked around and took some pics of a few planes.  Finally we bugged out and hit the Carolina Girl Grill for a much needed lunch.  It's so hard to believe that my girl is 27 years old!  It seems like yesterday I was huffing and puffing...wait no that's blowing and pushing....no that don't sound right either...hmmmm.....OK let's try this!  It was just yesterday I was screaming and threatening to kill everyone if she wasn't pulled out by her hair!  Yeah, that's it!  lol  Anywho, it was just yesterday I had her.  And I know this morning she started school for the first time...... Time....Time passes too fast my friends..

Well after we ditched the young ones, we jumped back in the 'Mater Car and headed out for my sister's house.  Wanted to check on her and see how her yard was looking....Looks good!  She had planted a few bushes and plants, tilled up her garden for spring planting.  Of course she met me at the top of her driveway with a bag of Daffi's for my garden!  I so love Daffi's especially when they originally came from our mama's yard.  Sister is looking much better these days and her hair is growing back gorgeous!  I'm so happy to see my sister looking so good after such a rough journey she has taken this past year.  After a bit the sky began to look a bit scary so the Hubs and I decided it was best if we headed back to our side of the county and batten down the hatches.  Little did we know what Mother Nature had in store for Eastern North Carolina......

Winds started picking up early Saturday morning but steadily increased until the storms arrived in our area around 3 in the afternoon.  Although we didn't see rain here until 7pm, tornadoes were dropping down in multitudes all over NC from I-95 and eastward beginning with Sanford and Fayetteville.  All told there were 18 confirmed tornadoes Saturday night and countless deaths.  A lot to be thankful for Sunday morning.  A lot indeed.  Every member of my family was impacted by these storms in one form or the other.  My youngest daughter was across Hwy 17 at Camp LeJeune when an EF-2 decided to pay a visit to the base.  Scared the pants off of her to say the least!  The Chosen One was out working on the farm on the outskirts of Apex, NC very near the "big one" when it struck.  I'm sure they are still trying to calm the horses down.  The eldest of all's grandmother, we call her Muttie (German for Mommy) is one lucky grandma indeed!  She and her daughter Bonnie live in North Raleigh, right in the path of the "big one".  Although her home was not touched, most of her neighbors suffered greatly, losing their homes and in some cases their lives.  I myself kissed my behind goodbye and stuck my head in the sand!  lol  Well I didn't have much time to do much else did I?   I thought I left storms like these behind when I moved back east years ago.........My prayers go out to the families that have been touched by these storms and I thank God everyday for the blessings he has bestowed upon our family.

Well Sunday was a totally different day wasn't it?  Such a beautiful day!  We loaded up the "Mater Car and headed back over to the Air Show.  Thank you GE for the tickets!  We really enjoyed it!  Really!  But then I can be easily amused.... lol  Had to park like 3 miles from the show but that was ok.  It just helps me kill the fat lady that ate me a little more quicker.  Walked my legs off!  Really!  Go over to the airport and see for yourself!  See?  Look over in the weeds....over there!  See?  Those are my legs just laying there in the ant mound......  Anywho got me some new legs now and they sure do look good.....  Picked these up from some girl at the Rims on the River downtown and I must say they serve the purpose.

Well that's it on this end of the world, hope all is well with you and yours.  So until we speak again that's the way I see it folks!
